A psychological horror, Haunting of the Queen Mary explores the mysterious and violent events surrounding one family’s voyage on Halloween night in 1938, and their interwoven destiny with another family onboard the infamous ocean liner present day.
Vertical Entertainment distributes in the US. Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey was quoted saying: “We were immediately intrigued by the chilling, grisly tale that the filmmakers have woven together in ‘The Queen Mary.’ We’re sure audiences and horror fanatics will flock to experience it this summer.” The film’s producers were also quoted saying: “We were impressed by Vertical’s passion for Gary Shore’s intelligent and twisted take on a great English and American legend. We know this team will be the perfect US distribution partner in logging the next chapter of this vessel’s historic and haunted history.”
Filming at the “UK-based ARRI/Creative Technologies studios, a virtual production facility which immerses cast and production crew inside CG environments rendered in real time with the help of a massive wraparound LED screen. Later in November, it will board the actual Queen Mary which is currently docked at Long Beach, California.” (10/4/21)
Alice Eve (Iron Fist, Belgravia) joins the cast. (3/1/21)
Gary Shore (Dracula Untold) is set to direct. (1/25/19)
Previously known as Vessels and The Queen Mary.
Filming was originally expected to begin sometime in early 2016 aboard the ship in Long Beach, Calif., as well as at Ubiquity’s studio in Irvine. (10/1/15)
When Ryuhei Kitamura was still attached to direct he was quoted saying: “The Queen Mary has an epic history through both glorious and hard times, and I’m fascinated by all the stories. I’m determined to create a visually stunning, really scary modern day ghost story that takes place on this graceful vessel, and it’s a great honor to be able to shoot on the real Queen Mary.”
It’s said that this is the first in a trilogy of films inspired by the hauntings on-board the infamous ocean liner.
The movie will reportedly film on the actual Queen Mary.
This project has been in the works for many years. At one point Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Midnight Meat Train) was going to direct.
This film is based on the real Queen Mary, which is a ship launched in 1934 by the makers of the Titanic. It’s permanently docked in Long Beach, CA and reportedly sees 2 million visitors each year drawn by its history and legends. The ship is said to be one of the most haunted places in the world.
Vertical Entertainment released Haunting of the Queen Mary in Select Theaters and on VOD on August 18, 2023.
Haunting of the Queen Mary premiered on Hulu on October 27, 2023.
