Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.

Previously had an August 9, 2024 theatrical release before getting pushed back to its current September release. (1/18/24)

Universal distributes in the US.

Director James Watkins had an recent interview where he talked about what fans can expect from this remake, saying: “Christian [Tafdrup, director of the original] was really pushing the idea of how far people would comply, like an allegory almost. Our film is 100% a remake and it honors the original, but it also does something a little bit different.” Adding… “Our film is a lot less explicit. It’s a psychological thriller with a horrific concept embedded in it, rather than a straight horror film. It’s easy to get scares or shocks out of horrific actions. Since I’ve become a parent I guess I am more mindful of not just having clockwork horror.”  (7/17/24)

Filmed in Europe.

Written/directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black).

This is a remake of the 2022 Danish movie with the same name.
