A twisted reimagining of the controversial classic – After witnessing his parents’ brutal murder on Christmas Eve, Billy transforms into a Killer Santa, delivering a yearly spree of calculated, chilling violence. This year, his blood-soaked mission collides with love, as a young woman challenges him to confront his darkness. “Have you been naughty?”
Iconic Events Releasing and Cineverse distribute in the US and will give the film an unrated theatrical release.
Filmed in Canada.
One of the film’s producers was quoted saying: “Silent Night Deadly Night has become a beloved cult classic since my partner Dennis and I created it with Michael Hickey over 40 years ago. Den and I are huge fans of Mike’s work, and his unique talents have reinvented the spirit of the original, taking us on a slay ride that audiences won’t soon forget.”
Cineverse Chief Content Officer Yolanda Macias said the following: “As production officially kicks off this week, we are excited about the magic that is being made with both the original team behind the 1984 classic teaming up with a new vision from Mike P. Nelson. We are delighted to welcome fans back into the Silent Night, Deadly Night universe with a reimagining that is sure to bring lots of merry mayhem.”

Sixth Dimension, StudioCanal’s new in-house genre label led by Jed Benedict, has picked up global rights excluding North America. Sixth Dimension was quoted saying: “At Sixth Dimension, our mission is to find bold, high-concept genre movies from great storytellers. We found exactly that in Mike P. Nelson’s thrilling vision and combined with the virtuoso Cineverse team, Jamie R. Thompson, the original Silent Night, Deadly Night producers and Steven Schneider, this wildly entertaining reimagining will not only deliver on blood-splattered, axe-wielding festivities, but smuggles in a love story too. ‘Tis the season to be gory!’” (2/6/25)
Writer/director Mike P. Nelson (The Domestics, Wrong Turn remake) was quoted saying: “The opportunity to work with producers involved with the original Silent Night, Deadly Night and to partner with the Terrifier 3 team is an honor. I’ll never forget walking into the video store at the mini mall when I was 5 and seeing that poster for the original film. I was in awe and started imagining what horrifying things would happen. To be a part of the film’s legacy many years later is insane! I’m looking forward to getting production underway, and unleashing my new take on this compelling story. Billy is back!”
Brandon Hill Cineverse Executive Director, Acquisitions was quoted saying: “I have always been a huge fan of Silent Night, Deadly Night and can’t wait to bring Mike’s vision to fellow fans of iconic slashers. As we have seen this year, there continues to be incredible demand for independent horror films with bite, and we believe this can deliver strong audiences from theatrical to home entertainment and streaming.”
Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios (Jeepers Creepers: Reborn) were originally going to produce back in 2021.
The original film’s producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead of Wonderwheel Entertainment are back to produce.
The original spawned four sequels and a loose remake in 2012. However, only the first three films are actually connected, while the last two sequels were just tales focused in or around the Christmas season.
It’s said that the movie blends “psychological horror, brutal slasher thrills and a touch of the supernatural and, shockingly, a sprinkle of romance,” adding that the film “hopes to deliver a modern new take on the ultimate holiday nightmare.”
The original movie was a bit controversial at the time of release thanks to the violent nature of the movie and advertising campaign that depicted a killer Santa. This led to many condemning and protesting the movie, ultimately resulting in the distributors to pull the ads for the film, along with the film itself from theaters shortly after. However, despite all that, the controversy seemed to lead to relative box office success, pulling in $2.4-million in only 10 days (before getting removed) on a budget of $750k.
This is a reboot of the 1984 film with the same name.
