Four survivors of the Ghostface murders leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start in New York City. However, they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when a new killer embarks on a bloody rampage.
Filmed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Actress Jenna Ortega had a recent interview where she spoke briefly on Neve Campbell’s absence, saying: “I feel like I can’t really speak too much on that just because it’s not necessarily my character. But I will say there’s so much going on in this next one, that it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy that I think you’re gonna be distracted almost. But it’s very clear, like, there’s references to Sidney, of course. You know, it’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because obviously we respect her and we want the best for her. She’s missed and thought of.” (11/9/22)
Jenna Ortega spoke briefly about the film and how it will be more violent and gory this time ’round, saying: “Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating. I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”
Dermot Mulroney is said to be playing cop who gets pulled into the mystery due to his daughter being one of the victims. He was quoted saying: “I guess I shouldn’t say that my daughter is one of the victims, but I don’t have to describe how or in what way, so that’s what draws me into the story is strong family ties.” (7/18/22)
Samara Weaving (The Valet) and Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home) have joined the cast. (7/14/22)
Plot details are still kept under wraps, but there’s a recent rumor floating around indicating that this sequel will take place in New York City. (6/12/22)
Neve Campbell revealed that she won’t be back as Sidney in this film, making it the only movie in the franchise to not feature the character. As for her reasons for not returning, it all came down to a payment dispute. Here’s what she had to say: “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” Adding… “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.” (6/6/22)
Actress Hayden Panettiere returns as the character Kirby, from Scream 4.
Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy), Mason Gooding (Chad) and Jenna Ortega (Tara) are all returning.
Courteney Cox returns once again, as Gale Weathers.
Previous directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return to helm the film once again. They were quoted saying: “Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.”
James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not) are back scripting this new film.
This year’s Scream successfully relaunched the franchise, pulling in $63 million domestically and a combined global haul of $107 million.
