One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town’s first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike’s 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy’s, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades.
Megan Fox has joined the cast as the voice of Toy Chica. Additionally, MatPat voices Toy Bonnie and Kellen Goff voices Toy Freddy. (10/10/25)
Actor Matthew Lillard had a recent interview where he revealed some minor details on what to expect from the sequel, saying: “…I think the filmmakers have done a great job of learning from the first movie of what fans want, and I think they’re giving a lot more of that. It’s going to be more exciting, and I think it’s going to have more action. It’s going to have a lot of character development stuff. It’s hard to kiss around it. I think the story ends, and this movie ends in a really exciting way.” Meanwhile, Josh Hutcherson also had an interview, where he revealed a little bit more about the film: “It’s much bigger; the stakes are higher. There’s more animatronics being brought in, different animatronics being brought in, and the world just opens up in a big way. We’re finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded. That’s something that I really think that we all fought for in the first film, because this world that was created in Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s so out there. It’s so over-the-top and wacky, in a way, that to find the emotional truth of the characters was gonna be what was gonna work. I think the fans are gonna flip for it. It’s gonna be a lot of fun with the source. It’s gonna be scarier, too, actually.” Filming is aimed to begin towards the end of the month. (10/4/24)
Emma Tammi (The Wind, Five Nights at Freddy’s) returns to direct, with filming reportedly set to begin July 1st in New Orleans. (2/20/24)
Actor Josh Hutcherson is expecting to return as Mike in this sequel and offered a brief update on the status of the film, saying: “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible. Obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was was so cool and phenomenal.” He added… “We hoped [the first movie] would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.” (1/8/24)
Despite earlier reports that filming begins this Spring with a tentative Halloween release, it’s been revealed that the project has in fact not been officially greenlit. This comes from executive producer and Blumhouse Vice President of Feature Film Development, Ryan Turek, who was quoted saying: “…we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We’ll see.” Either way, given the huge success of the first movie, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the sequel officially moves forward. (1/2/24)
While not much is known about this film, Matthew Lillard has expressed his willingness to return as the villain. He reportedly signed a three-picture deal with the studio, so it seems likely that he’ll return at some point. Here’s what he had to say: “One of the things I was surprised about is that I sort of fell in love with the costume work. I really found it exciting to explore working within that huge body. In drama school, you do these things called mask exercises, and so it was like this big moving mask exercise. So I really enjoyed that. I would love to obviously continue that when he’s spring trapped, but I’m hoping to find other elements in the movies. Hopefully they make more movies. One would assume they would, but I hope to find more opportunities for him to be out of the spring trap costume. But we’ll see. We’ll see. It is definitely nice to make the sequel. If they make a sequel. But it’s definitely nice to know that if they’re going to make a sequel, the line’s, “I always come back.” That’s part of the IP, so I am always coming back. That makes me super happy. In all honesty, as an actor, your career ebbs and flows and nobody goes straight up except for Tom Cruise. And it’s nice at this juncture in my life to start a franchise in my early fifties that hopefully will take me through the next 10 years of my life. And yeah, it’s just nice to have that in a career.” (12/19/23)
