Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.

Filmed in Vancouver, Canada.

Also known as Final Destination: Bloodlines, Final Destination 6.

One of the film’s producers confirmed via social media that filming has indeed started already and they’re aiming for a 2025 theatrical release. Here’s what was said: “After a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can. 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment in the franchise. To honor the occasion with another worldwide theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing. I’m wholly grateful for the opportunity, and humbly appreciate the sublimely talented team that has worked so hard to bring this to life. See you next year! PS: I know, I know — Pet Sematary: Bloodlines. But this is the title we’ve had for three years, and we’re keeping it… for now.” (3/5/24)

Filming for the movie has reportedly started today in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Tony Todd is said to be reprising his role as the mysterious mortician named Bludworth. There was an old report that he’d have a bigger role in the film and the story would trace back into his childhood and possibly reveal his connection with Death. The storyline was also previously said to mainly revolve around first responders, but that no longer seems to be the case. A more recent detailed storyline is posted above. Keep in mind that aside from this project being in development, nothing official has been revealed, so much of this information should be treated as a rumor unless otherwise stated. (3/4/24)

Franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick gave a brief update on the project, essentially saying that everything’s good to go and they’ll move forward once the writers and actors strikes end, saying: “There is a sixth one that’s planned the minute, again, the AMPTP comes back to the table, that movie is ready to go. It’s just nice as a genre fan to have something created that has become a part of the public zeitgeist. Again, I couldn’t have asked for more. [Producer Craig Perry] will tell me stuff, and I can’t repeat it obviously because I’m very good at that because I know I don’t wanna spoil anything, but every time that I’ve heard anything that they’re doing, or any scene that they’re doing or planning, it just makes me smile. The fans are gonna be – it’s gonna be well worth the wait.” (8/4/23)

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (duo behind 2018’s Freaks) are set to direct. They were reportedly among 200 potential directors and while they were already in line to get the job their final zoom call with producers sealed the deal thanks to the creativity behind it. This is reportedly what happened: “The duo made their pitch to New Line execs and producer together, with a burning fireplace behind them. As they wrapped up the meeting, the fire came alive and the mantle began burning. The filmmakers stopped and after a tense moment, quickly extinguished the flames. As they sat down, everyone relieved the accident had passed, a wrenching creak was heard and suddenly, the whizzing ceiling fan broke off and flew down, decapitating one of the filmmakers. The execs and producers went from concern to all-out laughter. The bit, using a combination of pre-recorded footage and visual effects, had transitioned seamlessly and showed their unabashed enthusiasm. It was, to all involved, the cherry on top.” (9/23/22)

Series creator Jeffrey Reddick had a recent interview, where he revealed that he worked briefly with screenwriters Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick and detailed that they’re changing things up for this sequel, saying: “I will say that it’s not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.’ And there’s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit: this one is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established… I think I can say that much.” (7/5/22)

Jon Watts (director of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home) is on board to produce the film, which is said to be going straight to HBO Max. Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not and the new Scream) are writing the screenplay based on a treatment by Watts. The studio is still on the hunt for a director. (1/11/22)

Originally said to be going straight to HBO Max, but that’s no longer the case.

Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (duo behind Saws 4 to 7, the Feast films, The Collector, Piranha 3DD, etc..) were originally set to script.

This film is said to be a reboot and a “re-imagining of the franchise.”

This is the sixth installment in the Final Destination franchise.
